Watercolour for Mothers Day

background.jpg Thursday, 26 March 09 - 04:45 PM (GMT)

This is the painting I made for my mum for mothers day.  It has been a while since I posted any paintings and I have been playing with watercolours a lot recently so I though I would share this.

Although I'm living in London, I do often think of the fields of home.

Twittering to sell art

I have been twittering away recently.  I'm searching for opportunities to promote my art work.  I have tried searching for people writing about buying artwork in London and then following them.

No follow ups so far but I haven't been able to properly engage with them after following them.  Basically I'm just listening not selling.

Has anyone ever had success selling artwork using twitter?? http://twitter.com/thewikiartist

The more I sell the more I can drink

Trying to paint

background.jpg Sunday, 07 September 08 - 01:48 PM (GMT)

I have been trying to make a painting for two of my closest friends for over two years now.  As a painter who normally spends more time setting up the canvas and the paints than actually painting this is deeply disturbing indeed!

Easy excuse - I care too much about the painting and don't want it to be shit, average or otherwise.

Of course the longer I wait to hand it over the harder it becomes!

I'm thinking of biting the bullet in the next month or so...will keep you posted.

Just spotted that a piece on a blog is called a post, and you are keeping people posted on your news... (Although I guess their is also the mail connection)

London Art

background.jpg Saturday, 05 July 08 - 04:07 PM (GMT)
By Joshua Davidson in General
London and art,  it is a good combination. So many people and so many ideas.  It really is very exciting. Making art, buying art, looking at art.  Artists are everywhere in London.  So I have decided to try and blog a bit more as a way of keeping up!
All good intentions? Maybe..... It is possible to view blogging as a vain act.  There is a misconception that putting something on the internet automatically means that you are showing it off to the whole world, but people still have to find it to view it.  In a way it is just a convenient way of writing a diary.  Oh speaking of my diary, I have a twitter account as well now:  http://www.twitter.com/thewikiartist
I’m using it to network and follow others really but I like posting links there as well.
Right so I need a theme for this first post...Art and London will do!
I make paintings using my sketch book and battered mac powerbook G4.  I have tried making art without my sketch book and without my mac.  Both were equally unsuccessful outings. I think that an artist that doesn’t at least recognise the possibility of digital technology in their practice now isn’t making art.  *I’m not saying that the work has to be made with digital technology, but it does have to take into effect how the digital world is impacting on the way people find and interact with art work.
*I have also decided that a blog post shouldn’t be an essay it is so hard to say something valid as a blog post. After-all most valid arguments need to be thought through and crafted over time where as blog posts should be written quickly and should be susceptible to emotions and whims.
I do know that I keep using the words art and london in an effort for this to be picked up in searches for ‘art and london’ would be good for selling some of my artistic wears, of which I’m now working on some more.  It has been a while and I definitely lost my way but I’m back!  It was in my pocket!  I was drunk the other night and someone asked me what type of art work I liked to make... I liked that question. It was unusual.  What type of artwork do I like to make? My drunken rambling will suffice for this blog post:
“You know when you listen to a song and you know some of the right words but not all of them so you have substituted in some of your own ideas and thoughts?  I like my imagery to do that - to tread that line. So they are abstract but I suggest at form, narrative and meaning.  To prove the point I like to fill them as full of meaning for myself as possible. To associate and image with many parts of my life and memories and fantasies.  The wiki should allow others to share their ideas”
Ok so it is a drunken rambling and not exactly the in-depth thought on art that I hope I’m sometimes capable of, but I do like it.  (do you see what I did???) Art and London. Art and London.
If you want a painting for your wall I won’t sell you one and in truth you would be better off going to MFI and creating your very own Rothko.  But if you want a painting that can become more about you than me, that you can look at and interact with...you can buy one of my paintings. So I have only half sold out!
Email me to request one on joshuadavidson(@)hotmail.co.uk
Thanks. Josh
